10/9/17 — Apple Sauce

Apple Sauce

 

Ingredients:

12 Granny Smith apples

maple syrup

1 tbsp. lemon juice

1 tbsp. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. ground allspice
IMG_0360
1 tsp. ground nutmeg

1 tsp. ground cloves

 

Directions:

Peel the apples, and cut them into fourths.

Mix all ingredients in 5- to 6-quart slow cooker. Pour 1 cup of water over the mixture.

Cover and cook on the low heat setting 8 to 10 hours or until the apples are very tender.

Mash apples with a potato masher or a large fork.

Cook uncovered on the low heat setting 1 to 2 hours. Stir occasionally, until the mixture is very thick.  Cool about 2 hours.

 

Cover and store in the refrigerator up to 3 weeks.

 

Hot Tips:

  • Use maple syrup instead of sugar.
  • Use Granny Smith apples.
  • The apples were tender before 8 hours.
